Derby turn down QPR ticket prices

Derby County have refused to accept the prices set by QPR for the game at Loftus Road on 27 September.

The club said a pre-season price of £30 for adults and £20 for concessions had been agreed but had been sent tickets priced £10 above those amounts by QPR. i.e. £40 a ticket!!!!

Club spokesman Matt McCann told BBC Radio Derby: "We think it's too high and we don't think that's fair.

"We have stood our ground and QPR have exercised their right to appeal that to the Football League."

£40 is ridiculous amount of money for a game at Loftus Road

A decision on the prices is expected later this week.

"One of our biggest frustrations is the inconvenience it's causing fans," added McCann.

"With going to London supporters may want to book a weekend and make an occasion of it.

"We expect a decision within 24 hours but either way, we will make sure our supporters aren't the victims of this situation."

QPR have recently restructured their ticket pricing with adult tickets ranging from £20 to £50 for league matches.

Gee I remember I paid about 25 pounds for a ticket there to see us pump Fulham.

40 pound to sit in that old train wreck of a stadium is a joke......

Apparently the league agrees with Derby and QPR have to sell their tickets at the Pre-season agreed price of £30.

Now the next question is... will Birmingham of agreed a similiar deal in the close season?

Believe it or not it works out cheaper for me. QPR charge half price for over 60's (I'm 61)so if the tickets are £40 then mine will cost £20. Blues on the other hand don't give Senior concessions until you are 65.

Thing is, not too many men can or want to retire at 60.So that 60 age concession will be of benefit to ladies in the main.

The pension age is expected to rise in the years ahead, and some clubs already have even cheaper prices for 75+ .

Birmingham City have been fined by the Premier League after they were found guilty of a discriminatory pricing policy against away supporters at St Andrew's last season.

The ruling comes after Sunderland pursued the matter with the Premier League following complaints from their fans over pricing of tickets for a game at Birmingham last August.

A Premier League-appointed independent commission ruled that Birmingham were guilty of discriminatory pricing against away fans at a number of games during the 2007-08 season.

The commission decided that the price the Blues charged to away fans was higher than that charged to their own fans for a comparable standard of accommodation. Birmingham were in breach of Premier League Rule J(9) and the club was handed a fine of £30,000 and ordered to pay costs.

Premier League chief spokesman Dan Johnson said: "Fans of all Premier League clubs deserve to be treated in an open and fair manner when it comes to the pricing of away tickets, and we are pleased the independent commission recognised the important of this rule."

The charges relate to the pricing of 10 matches at St Andrew's last season and Birmingham have decided not to appeal against the commission's ruling.

Sunderland chief executive Peter Walker was pleased with the outcome of the result of the decision and told www.safc.com: "This was clearly something our fans felt strongly about so we were keen to have the matter investigated on their behalf.

"It has taken some time to resolve but we are pleased that out fans' grievance has been fully acknowledged."

The Football Supporters' Federation also applauded the move to punish City and FSF chief executive Malcolm Clarke has called on Birmingham to either refund the money to the fans they have taken extra money from or donate it to football charities.

"We congratulate the Premier League on taking this action - it proves the importance of fans making complaints when the rules are broken, something the FSF will always be willing to help supporters do," Clarke said.

"The principle of away fans not being exploited is very important to us. We hope that this £30,000 fine will prevent any reoccurrence by them or any other clubs. But it is not right that Birmingham should keep the money they made from this.

"We call upon them to now refund the excess charges to the clubs concerned, so that they can return cash to the fans who paid over the odds.

"If this is not possible, a donation should be made to local football charities."
